Authoring Tool Features

This section has been broken down into the main feature categories of the Authoring Tool.  Please select a topic from the category you would like more details on.

The Authoring Tool in LCMS v5.2 has two “modes” – Design mode and Preview mode.

Design and Preview

In Design mode, you can add, move, edit or delete elements. Preview mode (inline preview) provides quick access to an immediate preview of your page, complete with the current skin assigned to the course. If you wish to see a preview (with skin) in its own window, click the Preview button on the left toolbar. If you find that elements on the page are not editable or that the tool icons are grayed-out, click Design in the top right corner of the screen to return to Design mode. Also, each time you select a new page, you will return to Design mode.

Note that the recommended screen resolution while working with the Authoring tool is 1280 x 1024. If your resolution is lower than that, you will see a message which says

Override message

If you click “Override”, the Design and Preview buttons will appear in the top right corner and you may toggle between them.

When the Table of Contents is open in the Authoring Tool, there is a text field (introduced in LCMS v5.2) which lets you search for a particular page name.

Filter page list

Type all or part of the page name into the box and press <Enter>. All page names with those letters will be listed in the Table of Contents.
